Los Monitos and Louisville Classical Academy Collaborating on NEW Latin Camp

Can learning Latin be fun?

In the same sense, can working out or running in a marathon be fun? Can seemingly “difficult” undertakings translate to enjoyment?  The age old answer is, “It Depends”.  While I may personally disagree with the marathon one, most activities that require physical or mental determination can be fun when placed in the right context.  Maximizing the “interesting”, “relevance”, “engagement”, and “instructor or coach giftedness” factors play a large role in solidifying the dependence question.

Los Monitos Language Company prides itself in the ability to deliver its programs in engaging and relevant form through gifted instructors – typically with language or cultural programs having to do with Spanish, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Russian.  But we are excited to announce a new partnership with Louisville Classical Academy – a five day, full curriculum Grammar, Middle, and High School.  Louisville Classical Academy resembles traditional Latin schools in its use of classical languages to refine and strengthen intellects, as well as the study of classic literature as a foundation of cultural literacy.  The unusually rigorous and engaging classes are rich in dialogue and collaboration.

Bill Heinz, Owner & CEO of Los Monitos Language Company: “I’m a big believer in the collaboration of parties who are the best in class of what they offer.  We don’t offer Latin, but we bring our strength in developing engaging language camps and experiential learning to the table.  It also broadens our spectrum of services – it’s a win-win.”

Amanda Proietti, Co-founder of Louisville Classical Academy: “Louisville Classical Academy, a leader in teaching the classical languages of Latin and Ancient Greek, is happy to partner with Los Monitos, a leader in modern-language education, to offer a camp this summer that brings the Latin language alive with an emphasis on spoken Latin and on learning about the culture of Rome that has so influenced modern American culture.”

The camp will be taught by Lana Lea, Latin instructor with Louisville Classical Academy.  An alum from the University of Louisville, Ms. Lea pursued undergraduate studies in English Literature and Latin, gaining membership into both the American Classical League as well as Eta Sigma Phi Classics Honor Society. This year, Ms. Lea sponsored the school’s Junior Classical League and will join the group at the national convention this summer in Winston-Salem, NC at Wake Forest University. Ms. Lea favors an active teaching style that accommodates myriad learning-experiences and expressions of knowledge.

The camp runs for one week from August 6-10, 2012 in a mini-camp format (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) for 8-13 year olds.  The camp will be hosted at LCA on Wolf Pen Branch Road.  The cost if $90 per student.  For more information or to enroll, CLICK HERE.

French & Cooking Campers (Kids) Surprisingly Generous with their Creations!

The Los Monitos Language Center in Crescent Hill is buzzing with adventures of the beginning of Summer Camp season…okay, that’s just another way to say it’s noisy.  BUT – we like the cooking camps, because the aromas are wonderful.  BUT, BUT – even better this year, the kids are sharing generously with adults that happen to be camped out in our own spaces around the office.  Methinks that I’ll be camping out there more!

The camps continue to run through the end of July.  For more information, CLICK HERE.
